The following list is divided into 10 Sub-Tribes and corresponding Genera according to the most
extensive records to date.  While bamboo names are always changing, this represents all plants as
named and discovered by the beginning of the year 2000.  Many taxonomists consider several of
the species, varieties and cultivars listed to be synonyms with previously identified species. Click on

                      Bambusoideae            (Sub-Family - one of ten Sub-Families)
                           Bambuseae            (Tribe - the only tribe in Bambusoideae with woody bamboos, others are herbaceous)
